There’s a Polynesian saying: “Something I believe will turn into something wonderful.” Is our search for God a search for that “something wonderful” that will tie everything in the universe and our lives all together?

Simply Living

July 20, 2014

by Reverend

Matthew McHale

Contemporary American society has more "stuff" than any other society in human history, and yet we are not any happier for it; and the pursuit of stuff can leave us feeling miserable and unfulfilled; not to mention that it is completely unsustainable. This Sunday we reevaluate our relationship to the stuff in our lives, and bring our focus back to the things that really matter.

Who Am I

July 13, 2014

Each week in our covenant, we affirm that love is the spirit of this church. Yet before we can truly love others, we must love ourselves. This involves figuring out who you are and accepting yourself. By not accepting who you are, you limit yourself, you confine your true being to a jail of your own making. And you need to break out of this jail to love yourself and then to completely love others.

Honoring Our Grief

July 6, 2014

by Reverend

Matthew McHale

Grief is a normal part of what it means to be human, and manifests itself in many different ways. Yet our society sends signals that there are right and wrong ways to grieve, appropriate lengths of time for grief, and that there are appropriate and inappropriate things to grieve for. All this can make us feel self conscious about our own grieving process, and sometimes leads to healthy grief being pathologized. This Sunday we will honor and reclaim that process as our own way of expressing not only our sadness but our love.
